In an exclusive interview with RIA Novosti, Zaporozhye Governor Yevgeny Balitsky said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces (VSU) are trying to turn the Zaporozhye region into a 'gray zone' at all costs, but they will not succeed.
Balitsky made this statement while assessing the Ukrainian provocation announced by Energodar Mayor Maxim Pukhov on Sunday morning. Pukhov reported that Ukrainian forces spread a false news via a drone that an evacuation would be carried out from Energodar, the satellite city of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
In his statement to the agency, Balitsky said: "They are constantly dropping leaflets, constantly telling that they will 'liberate' everywhere up to Rostov, and making similar statements." Noting that Ukraine's Center for Psychological Operations (TsIPsO) does this because they are paid, Balitsky said: "They are trying to turn our Zaporozhye region into a gray zone at all costs. But they will not achieve anything."
The Zaporozhye region is a Russian region located in the lower reaches of the Dnieper River. It joined the Russian Federation after a referendum held in September 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in June that 80 percent of the region is under Russian control. The city of Zaporozhye, the region's administrative center, remains under the control of Ukrainian forces.
