Russia will remain open to foreign citizens who wish to work or study there. Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said checks on compliance with migration legislation would also be strengthened under this policy.
Zakharova's remarks were published by the Russian Foreign Ministry's press service on Wednesday, September 16. Saying that Russia is one of the world's major migration hubs, Zakharova stated that migration policy must take into account both national security and the country's obligations in the field of human rights.
Russia is open to foreign citizens who wish to come to our country to work or study.
Digital services for legal stay
Zakharova said Russian authorities were working to make the rules governing foreigners' legal stay in the country clearer and less burdensome, adding that mandatory administrative procedures had been simplified and digital services made available.
According to Zakharova, digitalization aims to increase transparency in the labor market and protect foreign workers from dishonest employers engaged in illegal practices.
Zakharova said Moscow expects foreigners to comply with Russian laws and respect the country's cultural and spiritual traditions as well as the rules of conduct accepted in society. She added that changes to migration policy also include efforts to combat illegal migration and extremist activities.
Measures against illegal migration
Zakharova said the measures taken contributed to preserving harmony among communities and religions and significantly reduced the level of unlawful activities involving foreign citizens on Russian territory.
Stating that the efforts were comprehensive and non-discriminatory, Zakharova said Russia considers these practices to be in the interests of both the country and its foreign partners.
