Night attacks caused injuries in Kyiv and sparked a fire at an Ozon logistics center in Russia’s Saratov region. At least 8 people were injured in Kyiv, while the center and a distribution point in Saratov were damaged in a drone attack.
Saratov Governor Roman Busargin announced that the attacks had affected civilian infrastructure in the regional capital and that emergency crews were working at the scene. Busargin said initial information indicated that there had been no fatalities.
Ozon announced that a fire had broken out following the attack on its logistics center. The company said products at the facility had been removed from sale, some orders would be canceled and the remaining orders would be fulfilled through other logistics centers.
The company also announced that new orders and delivery operations in Saratov and the surrounding area had been temporarily suspended.
Russia and Ukraine report different air defense figures
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that air defense systems had shot down 777 Ukrainian drones over 16 regions, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014.
Ukraine’s Air Force, meanwhile, claimed that 138 of the 161 drones launched overnight had been shot down. Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the overnight attacks on Ukraine and announced that military-industrial facilities, as well as logistics centers allegedly used to produce and store drones, had been targeted.
The ministry said that data centers in Kyiv and in the Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as port infrastructure in the Odesa region, had also been targeted. It alleged that these port facilities were used to unload and store cargo purportedly sent to Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
Fire breaks out in nine-story building in Kyiv
The Kyiv City Military Administration announced that a fire had broken out in a nine-story building in the capital’s Dniprovskyi district and that 8 people had been injured in the attacks. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said a fire at a warehouse in the Obolonskyi district had been extinguished at 11:53 p.m. local time and that no one had been injured.
Logistics facilities become targets in the war
Ukraine has been targeting logistics facilities in various regions of Russia as part of an attack campaign that began in mid-July. The attacks initially focused on logistics centers belonging to Wildberries, one of Russia’s largest e-commerce companies, and expanded to Ozon facilities starting last month.
Kyiv claims that the Wildberries and Ozon logistics centers play a role in Moscow’s military supply chain. Moscow and the two companies, however, maintain that the facilities are used for commercial purposes.
Because of the conditions of the war, it is difficult to independently verify the parties’ statements about the attacks and their targets.
