On Uzbek Language Day, October 21, the updated Latin-based Uzbek alphabet entered into force in Uzbekistan. The document was signed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Organization of Turkic States Secretary-General Kürşad Zorlu welcomed the decision. Zorlu said that textbooks, signs and road signs would be gradually updated as their service life ends.

“The updated Uzbek alphabet will give strength to our work on a common alphabet. We will continue to realize the dreams of our ancestors together and strengthen the influence of our language family,” Zorlu said.
The secretary-general thanked President Mirziyoyev and congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on Uzbek Language Day.
