US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it conducted a 5-hour military operation against Iran. The strikes were carried out with precision-guided munitions and targeted Iran's coastal defense systems, missile and drone facilities, and naval capabilities.
The operation aimed to degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial maritime traffic. Targets included the areas of Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas. CENTCOM reported that more than 50,000 US troops are deployed across the Middle East and forces are on high alert.
Iran strikes US targets in Bahrain and Jordan
Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced they struck facilities belonging to the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain in retaliation for the US attack. According to the claim, a drone control center, fuel tanks, a Patriot radar, an air control radar, an early warning radar system, weapons depots, a communications center, and military housing were destroyed. As sirens sounded in Bahrain, the Interior Ministry urged citizens to move to safe areas.
The Revolutionary Guards also announced that a US airbase in Jordan was targeted with ballistic missiles. The Jordanian military confirmed it intercepted four missiles fired from Iran that entered its airspace.
Attack on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz
The UAE Ministry of Defense reported that two national tankers, the 'Mombasa' and 'Al-Bahiya', were hit by Iranian cruise missiles in Omani territorial waters at the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz. One Indian sailor was killed in the attack, and eight people were injured, including six Indians and two Ukrainians.
The UAE Foreign Ministry described the attack as 'a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which rejects targeting commercial vessels.'
Iran's Revolutionary Guards, in a statement to Fars news agency, claimed the two supertankers ignored warnings and attempted to pass through a 'mined route.' The statement warned that cooperation with the US, described as the 'aggressive enemy,' would lead to a global energy crisis.
These developments have led to the most serious test of the memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran on June 17 since it came into effect.
