French President Emmanuel Macron held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris. The main agenda item of the leaders' meeting was strengthening Ukraine's military capacity, particularly its air and missile defense, in the face of Russian attacks.
In a statement on social media platform X, Zelenskyy said he had a 'productive' meeting with Macron. The leaders discussed priority issues and bilateral cooperation ahead of the meetings of the Anti-Ballistic Missile Coalition and the 'Coalition of the Willing'.
The Ukrainian leader said, 'We discussed in detail the situation on the front line and Ukraine's needs to protect its people against Russian attacks. It is important to strengthen Ukraine, bolster our air defense, and accelerate the development of Europe's missile defense capability.' Zelenskyy emphasized that France has the necessary capabilities and advanced technologies in this area.
It was also noted during the meeting that bilateral relations have reached a 'truly strategic level' thanks to Macron's personal efforts. Zelenskyy presented Macron with Ukraine's Order of Liberty, saying, 'Today I thanked Emmanuel for all his help and support over all these years.'
Later the same day in Paris, the next meeting of the 'Coalition of the Willing' for Ukraine will be held. According to Macron, new announcements will be made at the meeting on military capabilities, industrial cooperation, and measures to combat Russia's 'shadow fleet'.
Launched in March 2025 under the leadership of the UK and France, this coalition brings together 37 countries and aims to contribute to the implementation of a potential peace agreement in Ukraine. Moldovan President Maia Sandu will also attend the meeting, marking Moldova's first participation in a coalition meeting.
