Russia's Defense Ministry said intense strikes were carried out on the night of October 22 against defense-industry enterprises in Ukraine and facilities used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The ministry said land-based precision-guided weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles were used in the strikes.
Ukraine's Air Force said that none of the ballistic and anti-ship missiles detected in the country's airspace that night was successfully intercepted.
The statement said Ukrainian air assets, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned-systems units, along with mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defense Forces, responded to the air attacks. Despite this, no successful interception of the missiles was recorded.

Air defense debate in Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously said ballistic missiles could not be shot down because of shortages of air defense missiles.
Yehor Cherniev, chairman of the Ukrainian parliament's Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, had also said the condition of the country's air defense systems had reached its worst level since the start of the conflict.
