Call for an emergency UN Security Council meeting
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that the UN Security Council had been called to an emergency meeting, saying his country had been targeted by intense airstrikes in recent days.
Sybiha said the Russian army attacked the city of Pryluky on October 7, targeted two passenger buses in Kramatorsk the previous day and carried out attacks on Kyiv. He said 78 people had been killed and 215 injured in these attacks in recent days.
Sybiha accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of escalating attacks on Ukraine’s civilian population. He also argued that the legal status of Russia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations was unlawful and called on the international community to uphold the principles of the UN Charter and respond appropriately to Russia’s actions.
