Peskov said Russia must ensure that no one would dare announce plans for a devastating strike on Russia “within 40 days.” Ukraine launched a large drone and Flamingo missile attack on Russia on September 19–20, and Russia has struck Kyiv for four consecutive nights.
Peskov also said Russia-US arms control talks would require long and careful preparation, so quick results should not be expected, although resuming them is urgent as the legal framework in this area has largely lapsed. As far as Moscow knows, China’s position of not joining such talks has not changed, he added. Commenting on Aleksandar Vučić’s resignation, Peskov said contacts with Serbia’s leadership would continue, as relations between the two countries are broader than ties between individuals. He described Russian-German relations as close to zero but called the September 26 meeting of the two foreign ministers, the first in 4.5 years, a positive step, saying dialogue is better than none.
