Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said at a news conference in Moscow that expectations for a political and diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine conflict had not advanced compared with several months ago. Ryabkov blamed pro-war elements in Europe for the current situation.
The Russian official said the prospect of a political and diplomatic solution was no closer today than it had been several months ago.
Proposal for an energy ceasefire
Ryabkov said they were assessing Washington's statements as seriously as possible regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal for a ceasefire in the energy sector between Russia and Ukraine.
Ryabkov argued that U.S. statements were not always backed by concrete steps and said this affected Moscow's approach.
No conditions for strategic stability talks
Commenting on the possibility of establishing a strategic stability dialogue between Moscow and Washington, Ryabkov said there were currently no preconditions or opportunities to begin talks.
Ryabkov said Russia would be ready to discuss strategic stability if the United States took concrete steps to improve bilateral relations. The Russian official criticized the issuance of empty statements instead.
No notification on U.S. weapons in space
Speaking about space security, Ryabkov said the United States had not notified Russia about the deployment of weapons in low Earth orbit.
Ryabkov said there was still time to prevent an arms race in space.
