The Russian Interior Ministry announced that two foreign suspects who attacked a ticket inspector and a citizen who came to help on a bus in Moscow had been apprehended. Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk stated that the assailants were caught in the Orenburg region while trying to flee Russia in a police operation.
The attack occurred on July 11 on Novoslobodskaya Street. The 28-year-old female inspector was checking tickets on the bus when she identified a passenger without a ticket. When the fare-dodger tried to flee, the inspector attempted to stop them.
At that moment, a man waiting at the stop rushed into the bus and struck the inspector on the back of the head. He then punched a passenger who tried to help the inspector and hold the fare-dodger several times. The assailants then fled the scene. The female inspector was injured as a result of the attack.
The apprehended suspects were determined to be two foreign nationals, aged 20 and 23. The Tver Region Interior Ministry Directorate opened a criminal case under Article 213 (Hooliganism) of the Russian Criminal Code regarding the incident. The case file has been sent to the regional unit of the Russian Investigative Committee for substantive proceedings.
