Russia's Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova announced that she helped secure the suspension of a criminal case against a soldier serving in the special military operation (SMO) zone.
Lantratova stated that her office was approached to protect the rights of a citizen who signed a contract during the interim stage of the trial and went to the SMO zone. The command of the soldier's unit petitioned the court to suspend the case, but the soldier could not attend the hearing because he was in the combat zone, and therefore the court proceedings were postponed.
Lantratova said, "We also stepped in: we sent requests and petitions, and argued that procedural rules must be followed. The good news is that the court granted the command's request and the trial was suspended due to the signing of the contract."
The human rights commissioner also thanked the lawyer and her colleagues for their swift and professional work. Lantratova said, "We will continue to monitor developments and help restore citizens' rights when necessary."
