Middle Corridor and Development Road
The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, links China to Europe via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye. According to the Organization of Turkic States, cargo volume on the route reached 4.5 million tons in 2024.
The Development Road is a $17 billion joint project of Iraq and Türkiye, under which a railway and a parallel highway of about 1,200 kilometers are planned to connect Iraq’s Faw port on the Persian Gulf to the Turkish border. Iraq, Türkiye, Qatar and the UAE signed a memorandum of understanding on the project in Baghdad in April 2024.
