US President Donald Trump said he had ordered a major reduction in the scope of joint military drills with South Korea.
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday evening, Trump listed the high cost of the exercises and his good relations with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un among the reasons behind the decision. He said the United States covered most of the expenses for the drills held with South Korea.
Trump also said South Korea had declined the United States' request for support for Washington over the war in Iran.
In a statement on Friday, North Korea's Foreign Ministry described the joint drills periodically held by the United States and South Korea as “training for an offensive war.”
