Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has launched an antitrust investigation into aluminum giant Rusal. The reason cited for the probe is that the company kept prices high in aluminum supply contracts for domestic consumers and ignored previous warnings.
In March, FAS sent a warning to Rusal, accusing it of inflating aluminum prices in the domestic market, and demanded that it change its contract terms by April 30. The deadline was first extended to May 29, then by another month in early June. However, the company did not make the necessary adjustments despite the additional time.
In a statement, the service said: "The company did not comply with the service's warning. Therefore, FAS has launched an antitrust investigation against the company over signs of imposing disadvantageous conditions on Russian processors. If the violation is confirmed, the Rusal group could face a turnover-based fine."
Additionally, in 2025, FAS recommended that the aluminum producer develop a trade and sales policy due to its dominant market position. It was noted that Rusal has not yet adopted this policy.
