A new federal proposal to support family values has been put forward in Russia. State Duma deputy and Chair of the "Mothers' Council" Tatyana Butskaya proposed a one-time payment of 20,000 rubles for couples married 50 years or more.
In a letter to Labor Minister Anton Kotyakov, Butskaya also requested that the payment be indexed or proportionally increased on subsequent wedding anniversaries. The letter stated: "We propose recommending that the constituent entities of the Russian Federation adopt a uniform approach to congratulating families married 50 years or more, namely, to pay at least 20,000 rubles for the 50th wedding anniversary and to continue this payment on subsequent anniversaries, indexed or proportionally increased."
The deputy noted that similar practices already exist in some regions. It was emphasized that a long-term official marriage is not only a personal value but also a socially significant example of stability, mutual support, and the preservation of traditional family relations.
According to Butskaya, this step will contribute to strengthening the institution of the family, increasing social appreciation of long marriages, and creating a unified approach to supporting family values in Russia.
