Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland expects the first step from Kyiv after the scandal that erupted over Ukraine's glorification of Nazi criminals.
In his statement, Tusk also said that Ukraine currently cannot recognize its own history.
Relations between the two countries have recently become strained again due to Kyiv's continued glorification of members of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which is seen as a Nazi collaborator.
At the end of May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the reburial ceremony of Andriy Melnyk, one of the OUN-UPA leaders, and his wife in the Kyiv region. During the same period, Zelenskyy named the "North" center of the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces "In the Name of UPA Heroes."
Following these developments, Polish President Karol Nawrocki revoked Zelenskyy's Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest decoration, citing the glorification of UPA members. Subsequently, some Ukrainian politicians returned their Polish decorations, and Polish politicians returned their Ukrainian decorations.
The UPA is designated as a banned extremist organization in Russia.
