Russia said it supports preserving a united, stable and developing Libya. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Alimov said Moscow was ready to contribute collectively to efforts for a political solution under the auspices of the United Nations.
Alimov met with Hanna Tetteh, the UN secretary-general’s Special Representative for Libya and head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, in Moscow on October 2.

The meeting addressed the process and prospects for resolving the Libyan crisis, which has continued since 2011, through political means. The sides also discussed concrete agreements reached at the end of August in the “4+4 small group” format, which brings together representatives of some influential eastern and western actors in Libya.

The discussions were held on the basis of the UN Support Mission in Libya’s road map. Russia’s Foreign Ministry described the approaching implementation of nationwide presidential and parliamentary elections across the territory of Libya under its former administration as “a positive development.”
Alimov said that a key element of a political solution in Libya was the inclusion in the process of all constructive political and social forces, institutions and individuals with standing in the country.
