Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has initiated legal proceedings against tech giant Apple. The lawsuit is based on allegations that the company failed to fulfill its obligation to pre-install domestic software on iOS devices sold in Russia.
According to the FAS, Apple had previously been warned because a foreign search engine was set as default. Russian legislation requires that the default search engine on devices sold in the country must be domestic or belong to a member country of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Apple took a step on this issue by offering users a choice of search engines in an updated iOS version starting from July 27. However, the company did not meet the other terms of the warning. It failed to fulfill the requirement to pre-install the Russian messaging app 'Max' and the domestic app store Rustore.
The lawsuit was filed under the Law on Protection of Competition. The FAS stated that if a violation is found, Apple could be fined under the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses.
