The Russian Interior Ministry announced the criteria set for photos to be used in passport applications.
The ministry's press service stated that the photos must correspond to the applicant's age on the day of application and can be black-and-white or color.
Photo technical specifications
Photos must be 35 x 45 mm in size and taken without headwear. However, for those who must wear headwear due to religious beliefs, a photo with headwear that does not obscure the face oval is permitted.
The face must be in focus from the tip of the chin to the hairline and from the nose to the ears.
Pose and background criteria
The person in the photo must pose full-face, looking directly at the camera, with a clear expression and closed mouth.
The background must be white, plain, without lines, spots, other objects, or shadows.
Eyes must be open and hair must not cover the eyes.
Consequences of not meeting the criteria
Officials emphasized that failure to meet the photo criteria constitutes grounds for rejection of the passport issuance or renewal application and other documents required for state services.
