Retired US Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy's war strategy. In a statement on X, Davis said that Zelenskyy's belief that he could force Moscow to accept Kyiv's terms by launching attacks deep into Russian territory was mistaken.
The retired lieutenant colonel also pointed out that Ukraine has been subjected to far more drone and missile attacks than Russia has faced so far.
This statement has reignited discussions about the conditions put forward to end the war. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a statement in July that the necessary conditions for halting hostilities were determined two years ago, and that if the Kyiv administration took those steps, the conflict could end immediately.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also listed his conditions for resolving the Ukraine crisis during a speech at the Foreign Ministry in 2024. Putin's conditions included the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, and Ukraine declaring that it had abandoned its plans to join NATO.
Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the resolution of the conflict must be long-term and sustainable.
