Russia has not ruled out the possibility of a trilateral meeting bringing together the leaders of Russia, the United States and China. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Sunday that Moscow had not excluded this possibility.
According to Ryabkov, the agenda for the meeting should be determined before diplomatic preparations begin. The issues to be discussed and the results expected from the meeting are the key elements of the preparation process.
Preparations required for a Shenzhen summit
Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov had previously raised the possibility of Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping meeting during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit to be held in Shenzhen, China, in November.
Ushakov said such a meeting involving the leaders of Russia, the United States and China could be useful. However, he noted that organizing the meeting was the responsibility of the country hosting the summit and that specific diplomatic preparations would be necessary for it to take place.
Putin's plans for bilateral meetings
The Kremlin is also planning bilateral meetings for Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit. The schedule includes a planned meeting with Xi Jinping, as well as a meeting with Donald Trump if suitable conditions arise.
