A new decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin sets the total personnel of the Russian Armed Forces at 2,441,630.

Military personnel account for 1,550,500 of the total. This represents an increase of 15,500 compared with the previous regulation.
The decree took effect as soon as Putin signed it.

Under the previous decree, signed by Putin in July, the total personnel of the Russian military had been set at 2,426,130, while the number of military personnel had been set at 1,535,000.
According to the exiled outlet Meduza, 52,500 new positions have been created in the Russian army this year, most of them for active-duty troops rather than civilian support staff. Ukraine claims Russia is preparing a new large-scale mobilization, while Putin has dismissed such claims as disinformation. Putin announced a partial mobilization of reservists in September 2022.
