Police thwarted an arson plot targeting a drone production facility in eastern Slovakia. Three foreign nationals linked to the case were charged with preparing a particularly serious offense endangering public safety.
Police said the planned attack could have caused a large-scale fire, endangered people’s lives and resulted in property damage worth tens of millions of euros. They added that around 70 workers could have been present in the production hall when the attack was being planned.
The suspects allegedly acted together on behalf of another party. During the operation, police seized a large quantity of flammable material, various tools and equipment, mobile phones, an action camera and a hand-drawn plan of the facility.
A preliminary examination found that the flammable material was a mixture of gasoline and polystyrene. The mixture is commonly known as napalm.
Investigators requested pretrial detention for the two suspects arrested in Slovakia. The third suspect was arrested by German authorities under a European arrest warrant issued shortly afterward.
No one was injured and no property damage occurred as a result of the police intervention.
