U.S. company OpenAI said its artificial intelligence models had achieved three important scientific results in mathematics, computer science and physics.
According to the company, in mathematics, the models proved the local smoothing conjecture from harmonic analysis in all dimensions. In computer science, they refuted the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH), which had long been considered valid. In physics, the models produced results that bring closer a mathematical proof of the existence of several quantum field theories, including quantum chromodynamics.

OpenAI said the results had been confirmed using the Lean formal verification system. To verify them, the company began working with researchers in the relevant fields and will release the underlying data for independent review. The company will also fund a conference on the implications of the results for computer science.
The results are based on the company's own statement; independent peer review has not yet been completed.
