Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store called on European countries to act together, saying possible threats from Russia should not be underestimated.
Store appeared alongside Finnish President Alexander Stubb on a CNN panel held in New York as part of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Norwegian prime minister said Russia was trying to divide Europe.
According to Store, Moscow aims to pressure Europeans who support Ukraine, drive them apart and create uncertainty. Store said this approach was part of Russia’s policy toward Europe.
Store said Norwegians had no reason to be concerned, but stressed that the necessary preparations should nevertheless be made for possible threats from Russia. He said these threats had been voiced by countries close to Russia and noted that the risks should not be underestimated.
The Norwegian prime minister said countries must act together in response to the pressure and uncertainty he attributed to Russia. Store added that NATO member countries were also acting in coordination with one another.
