Primorsky Krai is hosting a joint military exercise between Russia and Sri Lanka. The exercise, titled "Wolverine Trail-2026," is scheduled to continue until September 27.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said the training focuses on enabling special forces to operate together against illegal armed formations in an environment featuring intensive use of reconnaissance and strike unmanned aerial vehicles.
First exercise in Russia
The joint activities held under the "Wolverine Trail" framework are being conducted on Russian territory for the first time. The ministry described the exercise as an important stage in developing military cooperation between the two countries.
In addition to military training and combat missions, cultural and sporting events will be held to strengthen friendly relations between Russian and Sri Lankan units.
Russian and Sri Lankan units take part
Russia’s side is commanded by Hero of Russia Major General Semyon Nikolayev, while Sri Lanka’s side is commanded by Major General Anuruddha Solagarachchi.
Russia is represented by combined-arms army units and special forces units from the Eastern Military District stationed in Primorsky Krai.
The two countries held their first joint military exercise in Sri Lanka in November 2025.
