German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul announced that NATO allies have prepared a large-scale financial and military aid package for Ukraine. Wadephul revealed the plan in an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio ahead of the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held in Ankara.
The German minister said, 'With contributions from Europe and Canada alone, we can guarantee 140 billion euros for Ukraine for 2026 and next year,' and stressed that this commitment would be a strong signal of support for Kyiv.
Wadephul stated that this step would also demonstrate to Moscow the determination of Western allies to continue supporting Ukraine. Noting that recent developments on the battlefield point to a new phase of the conflict, the minister said Ukraine has the capacity to strike Russia with more precision.
Wadephul said the impact of Western military and financial aid is clearly visible on the battlefield, and underlined that international pressure must be further increased to bring Russia back to the negotiating table.
