Moscow ranked first in a housing affordability ranking covering European cities. Monthly mortgage payments in the city reached approximately 4.5 times the income of an average family.
While the ratio of housing prices to household income rose in Moscow over the past year, access to mortgage loans fell to its lowest level in Europe. Rising housing prices, high mortgage interest rates and the narrowing of state-backed lending programs made homeownership even more difficult in the city.
Moscow was followed in the ranking by Split, Lisbon, Nizhny Novgorod, Milan and Prague.
