A comprehensive change has been made to the social studies course taught in schools in Russia. Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinskiy announced that the duration of the course has been reduced from 6 years to 3 years without any loss of content.
Speaking at the International Legal Forum in St. Petersburg, Medinskiy stated that the best sections on society, economy, state and law from the old curriculum have been preserved, but the course has been significantly reorganized to provide practical benefit in real life.
As the first concrete step of the new curriculum, the "Prosveshchenie-Soyuz" publishing house has released a new social studies textbook for 9th graders, edited by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev. The Russian Ministry of Education has included the book in the federal list, and the textbook will be used in schools starting from September 1.
The XIV St. Petersburg International Legal Forum is taking place from June 24 to 26.
