Uzbekistan and Turkish authorities have agreed to accelerate preparations for constructing the first Uzbek state school in Türkiye, in Istanbul’s Bakırköy district. The project was discussed by Uzbekistan’s Consul General in Istanbul Sherzod Abdu Nazarov and Bakırköy District Governor Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu, the Dunyo news agency reported.
The parties agreed to make every effort to begin construction as soon as possible, while the Bakırköy administration confirmed its readiness to support the project during the construction and organizational stages.

The school will follow Uzbekistan’s curriculum
The construction will be fully financed by the Uzbek government, the work will be carried out by Turkish companies, and the project is being designed by Özgüven. Instruction will follow Uzbekistan’s education system, with teachers from Uzbekistan providing the teaching. The school is intended to help the children of Uzbek nationals in Türkiye preserve their national identity, culture and mother tongue.
That same day, the consul general held meetings with representatives of Türkiye’s Ministry of National Education and the Istanbul Directorate of Education. The Turkish side briefed him on the results of the project’s expert assessment and measures to address the deficiencies identified.

Foundation stone laid in January
The foundation stone-laying ceremony took place on January 29, 2026, on the grounds of Özyazıcı School in the Ataköy neighborhood. The presidents of Uzbekistan and Türkiye, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, took part via video link. The Istanbul plot was transferred to Uzbekistan for use free of charge, while Türkiye received a plot in Tashkent in return; the education ministers of the two countries signed the relevant protocol on November 1, 2025.
The school will be the first Uzbek state educational institution abroad. The dates for the start of construction and opening have not yet been announced.
