Leo Bokeria, chief advisor cardiovascular surgeon and academician of Russia's Health Ministry, said that smoking, alcohol, poor diet, and a sedentary lifestyle are the harmful habits that lead to plaque formation in arteries.
Bokeria noted that cardiovascular diseases are becoming younger, and announced that heart attacks in the 25-40 age group have recently increased 2.5 times in Russia.
Emphasizing that constant health advice is not enough and that a person must develop inner motivation to be healthy, Bokeria reiterated the importance of regular health check-ups and preventive screenings.
Giving an example about smoking, Bokeria said that everyone knows the harms of smoking, but people continue to smoke.
Bokeria stated that the use of cigarettes and similar electronic devices must be completely abandoned.
Stating that to maintain a healthy lifestyle, a person must understand why they are doing it, Bokeria said that some people do it for their family, others for a loved one or for work.
