The Kiel Institute for the World Economy said Europe significantly increased its military support for Ukraine in May and June 2026. The largest component during this period was the new Ukraine Support Loan, which provided approximately 11 billion euros ($12.7 billion) over two months.
The Ukraine Support Tracker found that European institutions were responsible not only for the loan program but also for most of the newly allocated aid. Financial and humanitarian assistance, however, remained significantly below last year’s level.

US weapons accounted for a significant share of European aid
Between January and June 2026, European countries purchased at least 3 billion euros’ worth of weapons and systems from US defense companies for military aid to Ukraine. These purchases accounted for approximately 30 percent of European military aid provided through defense-industry procurement.
Federico Mellace, chief analyst at the Ukraine Support Tracker, said Europe’s ability to continue its military support for Ukraine depends on access to US weapons systems.
Mellace said the United States remained an important supplier of systems such as Patriot, for which Europe’s options remained limited.
