A court in Cyprus approved the extradition of Russian citizen Serajudin Aktulaev at the request of the USA. Aktulaev was detained at Larnaca Airport in May 2025 due to cyber fraud charges by the USA. He is currently held in a prison in Nicosia.
US authorities accuse Aktulaev of cyber fraud, while Aktulaev claims he is innocent. The defense side announced that there is a right to appeal the court's decision within 15 days.
Similar extradition cases related to cyber charges have occurred in Russia in the past. Roman Seleznev was extradited to the USA in 2014, and Vladimir Dunaev in 2021. These cases are considered part of ongoing legal processes between Russia and the USA regarding cyber crimes.
The decision to extradite Aktulaev is seen as an important step within the cooperation between Cyprus and the USA. However, it is not yet clear how the appeal process will conclude and whether the extradition will be finalized.
Official statements and details about the process will be followed by announcements from the parties in the coming days.
