Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Calgary, Alberta, and announced that Canada’s support for Ukraine would continue.
Carney said support for Ukraine’s energy systems would continue and that additional assistance would also be provided. He said Canada supported Ukraine’s path toward joining NATO and the European Union, adding that Canada remained committed to the principle of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
The two leaders were expected to attend a signing ceremony, while Carney stressed that Canada would continue its support for Ukraine with determination.
Carney said Ukrainians had contributed to building Alberta and Canada, adding that Canada would also help rebuild Ukraine once peace was secured.
Zelenskyy thanked Canada, describing it as a strong partner. The Ukrainian leader said that, alongside energy assistance, air defense support was also important; he said the air defense package expected to be announced was critical and that there was a major global shortfall in this area.
