American wrestler Kyle Snyder described his Russian rival Abdulrashid Sadulaev as the most dominant wrestler of all time in a social media post after their match in Tbilisi. Snyder called Sadulaev, who has two Olympic titles and six world championships, "the greatest wrestler of our generation."
The two athletes faced off on Saturday at the Real American Freestyle tournament in Tbilisi, where Snyder defeated Sadulaev 5-4. The Russian wrestler suffered an injury late in the match and had a difficult time on the mat.
Kyle Snyder said in an Instagram post:
"Abdulrashid Sadulaev once told me, 'There are no friends on the mat.' Yesterday we were rivals, but today he is my friend. With two Olympic titles and six world championships, Sadulaev is the most dominant wrestler of all time. He is the greatest wrestler of our generation and is still competing. I'm sure this was not our last encounter."
Abdulrashid Sadulaev, 30, won gold medals at the 2016 Rio and 2021 Tokyo Olympics and has six world titles. Kyle Snyder, also 30, won the 2016 Rio Olympics and has four world championships.
The two wrestlers previously met in the finals of the 2018 and 2021 world championships and the Tokyo Olympic final, with Sadulaev winning those bouts. Snyder defeated his rival at the 2017 world championships in Paris.
