Olympic champion Russian figure skater Anna Shcherbakova described the International Skating Union's (ISU) decision to allow Russian athletes to compete under neutral status as "a very joyful event."
Speaking to journalists at Moscow Sports Day, Shcherbakova said, "This is of course a very joyful event. On the one hand, it's hard to believe that so many years of suspension have passed. I would have liked to see this news as early as possible. I am very happy and I hope everything moves in this direction."
In its announcement on Tuesday, ISU stated that Russian figure skaters will be able to participate in competitions under neutral status starting from the 2026/27 season. Russian and Belarusian athletes had been banned by the ISU since March 2022. The union had made an exception only for the qualification campaign for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, but that decision did not extend beyond the qualifying tournaments.
