Aleksey Chepa, first deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma’s International Affairs Committee, said on September 24 that attempts to isolate Russia internationally had completely failed.
Chepa cited Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s speech at the UN Security Council session on Ukraine as clear evidence of this assessment. He said the reactions during the session also showed that Russia could not be isolated.
Lavrov said Russia had repeatedly confirmed its readiness to negotiate a lasting and fair peace in Ukraine. However, Lavrov stated that Russia would not suspend its special military operation while negotiations continued, citing the lessons learned from past events.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot had previously said that only 51 of the United Nations’ 193 members supported a statement containing unsubstantiated accusations against Russia over Ukraine.
