Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called on allies to provide concrete support for an agreement with Russia to halt mutual attacks on critical infrastructure.
Zelenskyy said Russia continued to target food facilities, energy and electricity infrastructure, and other critical infrastructure in Ukraine. Saying that Ukraine did not trust Moscow’s willingness to comply with any agreement, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was also ready to stop its attacks if Russia demonstrated a genuine commitment not to strike these targets.
Referring also to the parliamentary elections said to be scheduled for September 18 in Russia, Zelenskyy argued that, if an agreement were reached, it should not serve to resolve fuel supply problems in the country during the election process.
Zelenskyy said the war must end and that a step to reduce tensions over critical infrastructure could be the first step toward peace. He said he expected concrete steps from his partners.
Trump had said attacks on energy targets would stop
U.S. President Donald Trump had previously said that Ukraine and Russia would not strike each other’s energy targets. Trump said the two sides had agreed to halt attacks on energy targets.
Trump also said that the main cause of the rise in diesel prices worldwide was largely the Russia-Ukraine War, not Iran.
