Serbian President Vučić announced that he will leave office on Sept. 27. Vučić said he would address the public on the evening of his resignation and thank those who supported him.
Vučić said he was the longest-serving president since Serbia adopted a multiparty system. He said this achievement would not have been possible without the support of the country’s citizens, adding that he had served Serbia and its people with loyalty, hard work and dedication.
He will join the snap election campaign as an ordinary citizen
Vučić announced that after his resignation, he would join the campaign for the snap general election to be held on Oct. 25 as an ordinary citizen. He said he had bought a small truck, a car and a caravan for this purpose.
Vučić said he would visit the country’s most remote villages and stay in the caravan in the places where he remained until late hours. He said there were thousands of villages he had not yet visited and expressed a desire to travel around the cities as well.
SNS targets more than 50% of the vote
Vučić said the Serbian Progressive Party would hold rallies in major cities, particularly the capital Belgrade, as part of its election campaign. He said he believed his party deserved to receive more than 50% of the vote.
