Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he requested Patriot air defense systems during his meeting with Donald Trump in New York. Zelenskyy said the request also covered other weapons and technologies they wanted from the United States before winter.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Zelenskyy said Trump considered energy among his priorities. The Ukrainian president said he believed the U.S. leader could seek an agreement to establish a ceasefire in the energy sector.
"I think he will try to reach an agreement on a ceasefire in the energy sector."
Zelenskyy also claimed that Ukrainian forces had destroyed 45% of Russia’s oil refining capacity. Arguing that the situation on the battlefield was developing badly for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelenskyy said Putin had not won.
Zelenskyy traveled to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly before meeting with Trump.
