European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that an additional €1.4 billion from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets will be made available to Ukraine. Von der Leyen stated that the funds aim to support Ukraine's defense capacity and reconstruction efforts.
In a statement on her social media account, von der Leyen said, "Russia must pay for the destruction it has caused," adding that the European Union will continue to use the proceeds from frozen Russian assets to meet Ukraine's needs.
The European Union had previously decided to transfer the extraordinary revenues from frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank to Ukraine. With the latest announcement, the additional support amount to be made available to Ukraine was set at €1.4 billion.
