UK Defence Minister Wes Streeting said Britain should be ready to “fight and win” in approximately 1,000 days. He made the statement in an article for The Telegraph.
“By 2030, the size of their armed forces and their war economy could enable them to attack. That gives us just over 1,000 days to fulfil our mission — to be ready to fight and win alongside our allies,” Streeting wrote, referring to Russia.

“Defining priority”
The minister said his “defining priority” was ensuring that the country was ready for war. He identified deterrence as the main goal, saying adversaries should “think twice” before attacking Britain.
Streeting accused the Conservatives of leaving the country with “the smallest army since the Napoleonic Wars” and expressed confidence that the current government would meet NATO’s defence spending target.
“Be ready” campaign
The statement came amid the government’s “Be ready” campaign, which urges households to keep supplies of non-perishable food, bottled water, blankets and a radio so they can last at least three days without supermarkets and electronic payments in the event of a cyberattack or extreme weather.
Earlier, former Chief of the General Staff of the British Army General Patrick Sanders warned that Britain had less than five years to prepare for a possible conflict with Russia. The government shifted its target from spending 3% of GDP on defence by 2030 to NATO’s target of 3.5% by 2035.
