A railway accident in the Orlovsky district of Russia’s Rostov region led authorities to declare an emergency in the area. Twenty-seven freight cars derailed on the Dvoynaya-Yelmuth line.
The press service of the regional directorate of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said that 25 of the cars had overturned and that no one was injured.
The accident occurred at 13:26 on September 20 on the Dvoynaya-Yelmuth section of the North Caucasus Railway. The derailed cars blocked the clearance of the adjacent track, and the catenary system suffered an emergency power outage.
While emergency response and repair work continued, 43 undamaged cars were taken to Dvoynaya Station by a shunting train.
The accident led to route changes for some trains operated by the Federal Passenger Company. Food was distributed to passengers on trains delayed by more than four hours.
