President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will speak on Tuesday, the opening day of the high-level general debate at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Erdoğan's address will be significant in terms of the international diplomatic repercussions of the Gaza and Palestine issues.
Erdoğan will be the fourth speaker on the first day of the program. Brazil will be first in the speaking order, followed by the host country, the United States, and the speeches will continue after Jordan.
Gaza and Palestine issues expected to take center stage
Erdoğan is expected to address Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, the need to recognize Palestine as a state and possible international measures against Israel.
This will be Erdoğan's 16th attendance at the United Nations General Assembly. During the general debate, the heads of state and government of member countries will present their priorities to the international community.
New York meetings and climate summit
As part of his program in New York, Erdoğan will hold bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres as well as the heads of state and government of various countries.
The visit will also include events with representatives of Turkish citizens living in the United States, as well as representatives of the Turkish-American business community and think tanks.
Erdoğan will also speak on Wednesday at the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit. The United Nations' annual Climate Change Conference, COP31, is scheduled to be held in Antalya in November.
The practice of having Brazil deliver the opening address at the General Assembly has continued since the 10th session of the United Nations General Assembly, except in 1983 and 1984.
