US President Donald Trump announced on social media that he had secured commitments from the leaders of Russia and China regarding arms sales to Iran.
Trump said that Chinese President Xi Jinping told him during their talks in Beijing that China would not give or sell weapons to Iran under any circumstances, and that this also applied to Chinese companies. Trump said, "Considering our relationship, I trust his word. Besides, I am doing him very big favors."
Trump noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin also told him, "despite the terrible war ongoing in Ukraine," that he would not sell weapons to Iran. Trump added, "(Putin) knows I sell weapons to NATO countries, not to Ukraine."
Trump emphasized that NATO countries pay full price and that he has "no idea" how the weapons are distributed. "Although it is often claimed, I believe the two major countries are not involved in this (arms sales to Iran). If they were, it would be very bad for them. It would certainly not be in their interest," he said.
