Social media personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are detained in the US, will remain at the federal prison in Miami for at least another two weeks while their extradition to the UK proceeds. Federal Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis postponed the hearing to consider their bail request until August 13.
The brothers' lawyer, Joseph McBride, claimed his clients are being targeted in prison. McBride stated, "The public is giving a green light for them to be killed in prison." Andrew and Tristan Tate were hit with 38 new charges by the UK Crown Prosecution Service, including rape, human trafficking for sexual exploitation, and offenses involving indecent images of children. Facing a total of 59 separate charges, the brothers deny all of them.
Andrew Tate continued to post on his X social media account while in custody. In one post, he claimed his human rights were violated, alleging he had no access to clean drinking water. Stating he is held in the Special Housing Unit, Tate claimed the water from a broken faucet caused stomach problems.
The Tate brothers were arrested in Romania in 2022 on similar charges, including trafficking of minors and sexual abuse. Their defense team argues they are not a flight risk, noting they regularly attended court hearings in Romania. British authorities must submit the full extradition request by mid-September. A US judge will assess whether the extradition request meets the evidentiary threshold. If bail is denied, the brothers will remain in jail throughout a process that could last up to a year. The Tates were arrested by US authorities on July 18.
