Türkiye’s Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek commented on the IMF’s assessment of budget transparency, which analyzes budget statistics, budget management, fiscal risks and accountability. He said Türkiye ranked among the leaders alongside approximately 40 countries, including the United Kingdom, Finland, Ireland, Austria and Portugal.
In the 2015 assessment, Türkiye’s practices met a good or advanced level for approximately half of the principles in the IMF’s Fiscal Transparency Code. The minister noted that this share has now risen to two-thirds.

Şimşek described the result as a concrete outcome of the institutional transformation that has continued for more than 20 years and said work on structural reforms to further improve transparency is continuing.
