Gold reserves added to Russia's state balance sheet are increasing faster than the amount extracted from underground. Rosnedra head Oleg Kazanov said the annual increase in reserves was between 700 and 800 tonnes, while production remained in the 430-480-tonne range.
Speaking at the Mineks 2026 Forum, Kazanov said the increase in the reserves balance sheet significantly exceeded the amount of gold extracted. Over the past five years, the annual amount of gold recorded on Russia's state balance sheet has ranged from 700 to 800 tonnes.
712 tonnes added to the balance sheet in 2025
According to figures provided by Kazanov, 712 tonnes of gold reserves were recorded on Russia's state balance sheet in 2025. About two-thirds of the gold extracted from underground reached the production stage.

Existing mines drove the increase
Mining sites already in operation were the main source of the increase in reserves. Newly discovered mining sites included in the state balance sheet for the first time accounted for only about one-fifth of the total increase.
