Yevgeny Volosastov, the Russian Foreign Ministry's acting representative in Vladivostok, claimed that the Japanese media distorts historical facts and covers up past war crimes. In a statement to RIA Novosti, Volosastov said that the content agenda of the Japanese press is alarming.
The diplomat said, "The Japanese media tries to hide the forest behind the trees by almost completely erasing the uncomfortable layers of history from the discourse." According to Volosastov, the military operations launched by Japan in Asia in the 20th century, the enslavement of peoples, and the massacres carried out in the Chinese city of Nanjing and the Philippine city of Manila are being covered up by the media.
Volosastov also stated that the Japanese press remains silent on issues such as the "extermination policy" against national minorities, experiments on humans conducted by Unit 731 and Unit 100, the forced labor of civilians, and the coercion of women into sexual slavery.
